Kindergarten enrollment is on normal pace

Enrollment numbers for 4 and 5-year-old kindergarten are about on par with what the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District expects at this point.
Elementary School Principal Jeff Kondrakiewicz said he doesn’t expect to hire additional staff if the projections stay on the same path as in years past, but nothing is set in stone until school starts.
“The numbers are relatively what we expected, give or take five or 10 students,” he said.
“We always have a trickle of students that come in between now and the start of school. In general, we tend to gain students as the summer progresses, but it is quite unpredictable.”
Enrollment for 4k is between 40 and 45 students, and for 5k it’s 45 to 50. 4k is slated to have two sections and 5k is slated to have three.
“Our numbers ebb and flow for these two grades in particular as families move in and out and make early decisions about their child’s education,” Kondrakiewicz said.
The drop-off and pickup procedures will remain mostly the same, aside from one change.
The west parking lot will become one-way only.
“This means when cars enter the south elementary lot off of Union Avenue, they will continue north and exit via Rocket Boulevard just north of the middle school. There will not be an exit on Union Avenue, only an entrance,” Kondrakiewicz said.
The turnaround circle just south of the elementary school on Union Avenue will be removed and filled with green space.
One of the elements in the school district’s $21 million referendum approved last spring is improving the drop-off and pickup procedures at the elementary school.
