Karl R. Schulz

    Port Washington resident Karl R. Schulz, 94, died of cancer at his home Thursday, July 26.
    Mr. Schulz was born in Sheboygan on Dec. 20, 1923, to the Rev. Karl and Hilda Schulz.
    He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 during World War II as a B-24 bombardier in the South Pacific Theatre. After the Air Corps, he served for 23 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve with the 438th Fighter Bomber Wing and the 440th Troop Carrier Wing at Mitchell Field in Milwaukee. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1972, and was a member of the Air Force and Military Officer associations.
    Mr. Schulz worked for the Wisconsin Telephone Co. for 35 years. Beginning as a lineman in the plant department, he retired in 1982 in the marketing training department.
    His family said he enjoyed all types of sports, but was primarily fond of tennis and played the game daily into his 80s. Mr. Schulz was also an avid walker who liked to amble to the Ozaukee Interurban Trail and Port Washington lakefront rain or shine.
    Mr. Schulz was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton.
    Mr. Schulz is survived by his wife Mary of Port Washington; children Steve of Fall Creek and Christine Schulz of Plant City, Fla.; grandchildren Brian and Michelle Schulz; and brother Richard  of Sheboygan.
    He was preceded in death by his brother Paul; sisters-in-law Marion Schulz and Marilyn Schulz, and stepdaughter Carol Ann Loppnow.
    A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 31, at St. Paul Lutheran Church.   
    Internment was at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Milwaukee.
    Memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church and School are suggested.
    Eernisse Funeral Home of Port Washington handled the arrangements.
