Local officials hope a joint workshop of the Fredonia Village Board and the Northern Ozaukee School Board planned for next week will be the first step in creating a more “whole-community approach” between the two branches of local government.

The joint meeting is scheduled from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, in the Ozaukee High School/Middle School library, 401 Highland Dr., Fredonia.

“The goal is just to get the boards together and discuss how we take our boards and community to the next level and really think about how we become a first class community and school district,” Northern Ozaukee Schools Supt. Dave Karrels said.

While the meeting is open to the public, public input is not being sought as much as interaction between board members, officials said.

“It’s more of a workshop format for the boards. People are welcome, of course,” Karrels said. “Both boards have some ideas on future opportunities for housing and business development.

“It’s basically a meet and greet and the first initial meeting, something to continue to build that relationship and look at it as taking a whole-community approach.”
