John R. Greenwood

Mr. John Greenwood passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at the age of 77. He was residing at Cedar Grove Gardens in Cedar Grove.

John was born in Menomonie, Mich., on Nov. 9, 1945, the son of Lester and Dorothy (nee Noel) Greenwood.

John graduated from Menomonie High School with the Class of 1963. John earned his associate’s degree at Milwaukee Area Technical College.

In 1964, John was united in marriage to Margaret “Peggy” Bohan. The couple settled in Fredonia, Wis., and raised their family of three children.

John later married Judy August. They lived in Port Washington, Wis.

Mr. Greenwood had been employed at Brady Corp. in Milwaukee, retiring in 2007 after 45 years on the job.

Shortly after his retirement, he moved to Mancus, Colo., then to Naples, Fla., before returning to Wisconsin.

John was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, where he had been active with the St. Peter’s Men’s Club.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether he was gardening, fishing, camping with his children, golfing, skiing or snowmobiling.

Mr. Greenwood volunteered in different ways with the St. Peter’s Men’s Club fish fries, the Port Washington Food Pantry and Big Brothers Big Sisters. He had studied to become a guardian ad litem and organized the Alzheimer’s Walk at Harbor Campus. He was a former member of the Fredonia Fire Department, as well as an EMT, and had been instrumental in helping to set up the ambulance service throughout northern Ozaukee.

John is survived by his children Scott Greenwood of Port Washington, Jackie (Darla Wilson) Greenwood of Stanley and Lana Greenwood of Grafton; grandson Zach Greenwood of Milwaukee; and three grand-dogs.

He is further survived by great-grandchildren Sierra and Dakota; twin brother Thomas (Carol) Greenwood of Naples, Fla., sisters Joy (the late Robert) Dreier of Port Washington and Jeannie (Kim) Harpt of Menomonie; and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Kara Voigt and sister Joan (the late Stephen) Kopish.

A celebration of life will be held on Jan. 14 at Engine Room 102, 102 E. Pier St., Port Washington, Wis.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a service at 6:30 p.m. Guests should come with a memory or story to share if they wish.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cedar Grove Gardens for welcoming John in as part of their family and the wonderful care John received while residing there.
