John F. Hembel

John F. Hembel, 74, of West Bend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct.. 29, 2025.

John was born on March 9, 1951, in West Bend, Wis., to John and Teresa Hembel. He grew up on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work and family dedication.

After graduating from high school, John began working in the trades and later founded his own contracting business, Hembel Improvements. Over nearly three decades, Hembel Improvements became a trusted name in West Bend and the surrounding communities.

Alongside running his business, John enjoyed raising his two children. He cherished time spent outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and shared ownership of a large hunting property in Wausau, where he built a cabin that became a gathering place for family and friends.

In retirement, John found joy in spending time with his grandchildren, helping on his brother’s farm and tending to his garden.

John is survived by his children, Russ (Heather) Hembel of Newport, N.C., and Shelby Wolf of Fredonia; his grandchildren Jeremiah Hembel, Samuel Wolf, Caleb Hembel and Abigail Hembel; and his brothers Neal (Delores) Hembel and Scott (Mary) Hembel. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Teresa Hembel.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Calvary Church in West Bend. Visitation will take place at the church from 4 p.m. until the service.

To honor John’s love of the outdoors, the family invites guests to wear flannel or camouflage attire.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin at wisconservation.org.
