Joan Biever

Joan Biever, a lifelong resident of Port Washington, passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. She was 83 years old.

Joan was born in Port Washington on Aug. 29, 1939, the daughter of Wallace and Susan (nee Runkel) Krueger.  Joan attended Port Washington High School, graduating with the Class of 1958.

On Aug. 5, 1961, she married Roy Leiviska at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington. He preceded her in death in 1974.

On Dec. 2, 1982, she married the love of her life, Joe Biever, at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington.

Joan and Joe together operated Biever Appliance in Port Washington, where they loved serving the community and created relationships.

After Joe’s death in 2003, Joan retired and sold the store.

Joan was a lifelong member of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish. She was very active in the Christian Women, served as a Eucharistic minister for more than 25 years and was a member of the prayer chain.

Joan enjoyed playing bingo, going for drives to look for wildlife, cooking and baking.

Joan was a very giving, loving and caring women. Her life was centered around God, family and friends. She was always giving her time to help others. She took great pride in putting others before herself.

Joan is survived by her three children, John (Nicole) Leiviska, Carol (Craig) Czarnecki and Robert “Bubba” (April) Biever.

She is further survived by her daughter-in-law Julie (the late James) Leiviska; 12 grandchildren, Jamie (Harvey) Utecht, Megan (Ryan) Kohlmeyer, Joel (Kristie) Leiviska, Rebeca (Tyler) Shepherd, Anne (Bob) Burger, Alexandrea Leiviska, Donny (DJ) Leiviska, Katie, Sarah and JoJo Czarnecki and Matthew and Jack Biever; seven great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Norah, Brayden, Aubrey, Julian, Tatum and Ellie; her “adopted” grandchildren Arianna, Evelyn and Jose;  nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Susan Krueger, her husbands Roy Leiviska and Joe Biever, two sons, David and Jim Leiviska, and her siblings Warren (the late Sally) Krueger and Vivian (the late Al) Last.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 6 p.m. at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside over the Mass.

Visitation will take place on Friday, March 24, at the church from 3 to 6 p.m.

She will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, Port Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John XXIII Parish.
