Jeweler is June artist of the month at center

Jeweler Catherine Laing is the June artist in residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

Laing, whose shop The Pagoda is on Columbia Avenue in Cedarburg, graduated from Cornell College with a bachelor of fine arts degree in arts and education.  

She then set out for Garrison, Iowa, where she operated her own jewelry studio for two years before heading to New York to work for David Yurman.

Liang moved to Cedarburg in 1980 and has been designing jewelry there ever since.

Her work has been represented by Edgewood Orchard Galleries since 1983, and she also shows her work at Gallery of Wisconsin Art in West Bend and The Pagoda in Cedarburg.

Liang will work at the cultural center  from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, June 13, 20, 27  and Thursday, June 28.

She will also give a presentation on collaborative design on Tuesday, June 26.

Liang will teach a workshop on designing your own ring or pendant from an existing piece of jewelry from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26.

During the class, she will present information on the process of making her fine jewelry as well as jewelry re-design, with examples of past works.  

The fee is $17 for center members or $20 for non-members.
