Jerry A. Peterson

Mr. Jerry Peterson of West Bend, formerly of Saukville and Grafton, passed away Sunday morning, July 31, 2022, at Vitas Ruth Hospice in West Allis. He was 73 years old.

Jerry was born in Black River Falls on Nov. 24, 1948, the son of Harold “Ole” and Norma (nee Finch) Peterson.

In 1953, the family moved to the Saukville area. Jerry attended local schools, including Port Washington High School.

In 1978, Jerry met the love of his life, Gail (nee Reinemann) Hensel. They moved to Grafton and later settled in West Bend in 1998. Jerry and Gail were united in marriage during a ceremony in Las Vegas on Feb. 4, 2000.

Mr. Peterson was a proud member of Teamsters Local 200 in Milwaukee for more than 25 years, retiring in 2007 after delivering groceries for Roundy’s Supermarket.

Jerry was a talented iron artist and created many geometric sculptures and various moving creatures from scrap metals.

He also enjoyed flying gyro-planes and powered parachutes. He was really excited when he was finally able to purchase a hangar at West Bend Airport, where he spent many hours pursuing his hobby.

He loved gardening and could often be found sitting beside the 31-foot waterfall he created in their backyard.

After retirement, Jerry and Gail took to the road in their RV and traveled around the country until Jerry’s health began to decline.

Jerry could always be found with his trusted and well-loved support dog Bentley at his side. Bentley has devoted his life to watching over Jerry for the past nine years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Gail, son Kevin (Chris) Peterson of Kewaskum, grandchildren Heather, Haley and Tristan and four great-granddaughters.

He is further survived by his stepson Jason (Kristine Kline) Hensel of the Town of Grafton, stepgrandchildren Lukas and Kyle Hensel, sister Hazel (Timm) Bublitz of Madison, brother Roger (the late Pamela) Peterson of Las Vegas, sister-in-law Claire Peterson of West Bend, other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Wayne and Tom Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, followed by interment in Union Cemetery, Port Washington. The family will receive visitors on Friday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Washington County Humane Society.
