Jan Badtke

Jan Badtke, 87, died of heart failure at her Port Washington home Saturday, Dec. 15.

Mrs. Badtke was born in Cato on Nov. 7, 1931, to Raymond and Edna Schultz Schwoerer.

The family moved to Sheboygan when she was young and she graduated from Sheboygan Central High School.

While roller skating, she met a young man who knocked her off her feet. On May 10, 1952, she married William Badtke at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan.  

The couple settled in Sheboygan, where Mrs. Badtke worked as a bookkeeper for the family business Badtke Automotive Service, for nearly 30 years.

Mrs. Badtke enjoyed boating, traveling and golfing, but most of all loved dancing with her husband.

Her husband said they traveled to the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas, Egypt, Germany, France and Italy.  

Mrs. Badtke was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish in Port Washington.

Mrs. Badtke is survived by her husband Bill of Port Washington; children Cheryl Behrens of Port Washington, Renee Pytel of Redford, Mich., and Michael of Sheboygan Falls.  

She is further survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and son-in-law David (Rosemary) Bartel of Chilton.  

Mrs. Badtke was preceded in death by her daughter Donna Bartel, brother Raymond, three sisters and sons-in-law Dale Behrens and Robert Pytel.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside.  

Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from noon until the service.

Memorials to Aurora Home Hospice are suggested.
