Ione A. Wheeler

Ione A. Wheeler of Adell, formerly of Fredonia, passed away at her home Wednesday evening, May 20, 2020.  

She was born on Oct. 2, 1937, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Edward and Jenny Herkowski.  

On June 11, 1966, she was united in marriage with David Wheeler (1931-2011) in Milwaukee. The couple resided in Fredonia, where they raised their 11 children.   

Ione was a member of Calvary Church in West Bend. She involved herself in the children’s ministry, intercessory prayer team, hospitality team, prison ministries and AGLOW of West Bend.  

Ione was the queen bee of quilting. She made quilts for injured soldiers, pastors, kids and those in need.      

Ione is survived by her children David Jr. of Tomah, Cynthia of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Scott of Adell, Anne Redmond of Fredonia, John (Caroline) of Menomonee Falls, Robert (Karla) of South Milwaukee, Richard of Alpharetta, Ga., Jean (Derek) Berg of Campbellsport and Jane (Tom) Prebit of Acworth, Ga.  

She is further survived by 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her husband David, her sons William and Michael, and son-in-law William “Joe” Redmond.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at Calvary Church, 1110 E. Decorah Rd., West Bend, Wis. 53095, with Pastor Jerry Michaelson presiding.  

The family will receive visitors at the church from 2 to 4 p.m.
