The Port Washington High School girls’ varsity swim team again improved its performance from last season in its meet against Hartford/Slinger on Oct. 13.

The Pirates lost, 98-72, which was better than last year’s 112-68.

“We were within seconds of swinging the varsity score to an 8 point difference. We are getting closer every step of the way,” co-coach Danielle Peiffer said.

Abbey Lotz scored 10 points and was the only individual event winner for Port, taking first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes. 13.73 seconds.

Lotz nearly won a second event, the 500 freestyle, finishing second in 6:00.68.

“That’s something she will use as fuel in future races,” Peiffer said.

Grisar was third in the event in a personal-record 6:39.43.

The 400 freestyle relay of Eva Perez, Erin Grisar, Maddi Klein and Lotz won in 4:15.24.

The 200 freestyle relay of Huber, Klein, Tetzlaff and Lotz was second in 1:56.48.

Port’s second 400 freestyle relay team of Leah Sheriff, Serena Baumann, Bennett and Kelly Ball took third in 4:44.35.

Port was scheduled to host Homestead on Oct. 20. The North Shore Conference diving meet is Friday at Nicolet. Port hosts the conference swim meet on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Ashwaubenon hosts the sectional meet on Saturday, Nov. 7.

“We will focus on doing what we normally do — go into the race with a positive and confident mindset. Focus on clean swims, good pacing and best effort,” Peiffer said of the final meets of the season.
