Hometown Heroes Inc. changes its name

Hometown Heroes Inc., the nonprofit organization behind Camp Hometown Heroes and Camp Reunite, is now Power of Humans Inc.

The new name is intended to reflect the organization’s unified identity and expanded vision, bringing together Camp Hometown Heroes, Camp Reunite and the Kids2Kids Toy Drive under one organization.

By doing so, organizers hope to strengthen the organization’s ability to support children and families.

The new name does not affect the identity or operation of the three programs, which will continue under their existing names and missions.

For more than two decades, Hometown Heroes Inc. has worked to create transformative experiences for children and families navigating grief, separation, trauma and adversity.

Camp Hometown Heroes provides healing, connection and community for the children of fallen service members.

Camp Reunite provides children and families impacted by incarceration with the opportunity to reconnect, rebuild relationships and create positive memories through camp experiences.

Toys2Toys empowers young people to help children by collecting and distributing tops to those in need during the holidays.

Power of Humans was originally launched as a platform dedicated to sharing stories of kindness, resilience and the positive impact people have on one another.

“The Power of Humans brand began as a way to celebrate stories that remind us of what’s possible when people show up for one another,” Jim Kacmarcik, co-founder and board president of Power of Humans, said. “Today, we’re building on that belief in a much bigger way.

“From Camp Hometown Heroes to Camp Reunite and the Kids2Kids Toy Drive, each program was created to meet a unique need but all are rooted in the same conviction — that people are capable of healing, growing and thriving when they are supported by caring communities.”

Power of Humans will bring those efforts together under one vision and “create a foundation for even greater impact in the years ahead.”

Kenzie Gonzalez, executive director of Power of Humans, said the change is intended to create a “stronger, more connected future for the families we serve. By bringing our programs together under one nonprofit identity while preserving the programs our families and supporters know and trust, we can deepen our impact, strengthen communities and create more opportunities for healing, resilience and hope.”
