Holtz holds off Prunty, DeVoy for Slinger win

Jeff Holtz and Zach Prunty staged an intense battle for the lead for most of the 50-lap Uptown Motorcars pro late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Speedway, with Holtz prevailing over a fast-closing Jordan DeVoy.

Holtz and Prunty spent the first half of the race advancing their way to the front of the field as Jake Vanoskey, Billy Braun, and Jakob Hassler all took turns leading the race.

Prunty raced his way into the lead just past the halfway mark, and Holtz followed in his tracks and challenged for the top spot shortly thereafter. Prunty and Holtz traded the lead for several laps before Holtz took sole possession of the top spot, using the inside groove to pass Prunty while DeVoy methodically closed in on the leaders.

DeVoy was able to pass Prunty for second in the waning laps and began to close on Holtz, but he proved to be too strong.

“It was a lot of fun racing with Zach (Prunty) and I know we were trading paint a little bit,” Holtz said from victory lane. “But that’s racing. It was a very good night as I haven’t been my best the last couple of outings here, but we finally got it back together tonight.”

“We were trying our hardest, and I knew I had to get in the right lane,” DeVoy said. “Neither lanes were moving, and once they started to get single file we were able to make a good charge to the front.”

“I changed a lot over the week even though I probably shouldn’t have, but I got bored having the week off,” Prunty said. “Practice was good and qualifying was not so good. We left it alone for the heat race and didn’t like it then but made some adjustments, and the car was good in the feature.”

Tom Berens finished in fourth place, followed by Tyler Hromadka, Ryan Gutknecht, Hassler, Matt Urban, Mitch DelCamp and Zach Braun.

In other races:

• DelCamp captured his first career victory in the first pro late model heat race while Hassler won the second. Berens was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 12.134 seconds.

• Paul Reagles edged Brandon Tackes by less than a car length to win the 25-lap Super Beez feature. Colin Saegert finished third, followed by Al Strobel and Todd Buckley.

Derek Hoerig and Strobel were the winners of the Super Beez heat races. Todd Buckley was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 13.8 seconds.

• Ricky Gebhard won the 25-lap Slinger Bee main event over Tom Elsinger Jr. and Brandon Mennicke. Tracy Neu and Misty Benn completed the top five.

Strobel won the first Slinger Bee heat race, and Dylan Lemberger won the second. Benn was fastest qualifier with a lap of 15.211 seconds.

• Joshua Zacharias used a late charge to pass Mark Fogel Jr. for the lead in the 15-lap Slinger Sixers feature en route to the victory. Brandon Gumm was third, followed by Rick Buss and Brian Gardner.

Fogel won the Slinger Sixers heat race. Zacharias was fastest qualifier with a lap of 15.91 seconds.

• Kurt Kleven drove his 1975 Chevrolet Monte Carlo to the win in the Spectator Eliminator races as he edged Carl Trapp in his Chevy Nova. Nick Ostberg won the Figure 8 event.

Reagles wins Super Beez

After two rainouts, the hobby stocks got to race on July 17 at the Small Car Nationals.

Paul Reagles topped the 30-lap Super Beez feature by holding off Al Strobel and Marty Tackes. Hunter Landwehr was fourth, followed by Derek Hoerig, Scott Hackbarth, Chad Ferge, Robert Peters, Todd Buckley and Brandon Tackes.

In other races:

• Mitchell Strobel won the first Super Beez heat race before taking a nasty tumble in the main event. His car struck the turn three wall backward and rolled over a car behind him, which bounced off the backstretch wall and connected with Al Strobel’s right rear fender.

Paul Reagles won the second heat race. Al Strobel was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 13.815 seconds.

• Carl Benn won the 30-lap Slinger Bees feature over Brandon Mennicke and Tom Elsinger Jr. Brian Hillringhouse was fourth, followed by Mitchell Strobel, Jason Clope, Misty Benn, Bill Ostovich Jr., Scott Emmrich and Tracy Neu.

Al Strobel and Bill Ostovich Jr. were the winners of the Slinger Bees heat races. Ricky Gebhard was fastest qualifier with a lap of 15.243 seconds.

• Chris Flairty won the 25-lap hobby stocks feature. Dave Trute was second, followed by Tucker Bodendorfer, Brandon Reidner and Nick Bruley.

Hobby stock heat race victories were captured by Chuck Egli and Brandon Reidner. Dave Trute was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 13.617 seconds.

• The 25-lap Great North Legends feature was won by Jacob Tiegen over Tim Brockhouse and Colin Stocker. Ayrton Brockhouse and Tyler Ledbetter rounded out the top five.

Adam Powers and Colin Stocker each won a Great North Legends heat race. Tim Brockhouse was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 13.359 seconds.

• The Bandolero 15-lap main event was won by Alex Hartwig. Lincoln Cain was second, followed by Jayden Johnson, Mark Anderson and Alex Oldenhoff.

• Bentley Thompson won the Bandolero semi-feature and transferred to the main event along with second-place finisher Parker Bodendorfer. Emily Billings was third, followed by Harley Johnson and Carter Stein.

• The Wisconsin Sport Trucks made their annual appearance at Slinger, and Kasey Vanderloop won the 25-lap main event. Dom Sokolik finished second, followed by Andrew Ross, Marty Sokolik and Masyn Liedke.

Dom Sokolik was the winner of the Sport Truck heat race, and Vanderloop was fastest qualifier with a lap of 13.905 seconds.

• Michael Rose topped the 25-lap American Super Cup Series main event.

Sean Eurick was second, followed by Caden Baaske, Matt Rose and Brandyn Wind.

Carter Appleton won the first American Super Cup Series heat race, and Mick Ellis won the second heat race. Sean Eurick was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 15.148 seconds.

Auto Body Hot Rod Night set for Sunday

A car show will be held from 2 to 5:45 p.m. Sunday, July 31, in the parking lot at Slinger Speedway, followed by racing. Gates open at 5 p.m. with qualifying at 5:20 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m. Divisions include pro late models, modifieds, Slinger Sixers, 602 late models, Slinger Bees and Figure 8’s.

Plymouth races rained out on Saturday

The Plymouth Dirt Track (PDTR) races were canceled due to storms on Saturday night.

The Wall of Fame induction has been moved to Saturday, Aug. 6, which is also kids’ autograph night and backpack night.

The IRA 410 sprints, PDTR sprints and Badger Midgets are slated to race Saturday, July 30. Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing to start at 5:30 p.m.
