Hilgart runs for two TDs, throws for one for Gladiators

The Grafton Gladiators youth football team kicked off its 2020 All American Youth Football League season with a 24-8 win over the Cedarburg Dawgs.
Grafton’s defense held the Dawgs to 51 yards. Backed by the linebacker play of Tyler VanSluys, Grafton’s front four of Brady Hilgart, Thomas Peterson, James Nellis and Tommy Lutz allowed Cedarburg only one drive of more than 10 yards.  
Grafton had held Cedarburg to minus 12 yards before Cedarburg mounted a touchdown drive of 54 yards for its only score.
The drive was capped by Kyle Anderson’s three-yard touchdown run.
Grafton’s first series had them on the move with a 32-yard pass play from quarterback Brady Hilgart to wide receiver Brandon Lange. Cedarburg’s defense then stiffened and stopped Grafton on fourth down play at the Dawgs’ 22-yardline.
After a four-and-out by Cedarburg, Grafton’s offense mounted a 70-yard drive, highlighted by a 40-yard pass from Hilgart to slot receiver Tommy Lutz. On a third-and-goal from the 5-yardline, Hilgart hit Lange on a touchdown pass for Grafton’s first score.
Grafton’s other two scores were the result of Hilgart runs of 18 and 20 yards.  
The game ended on a Gavin Lemke interception for Grafton.
Grafton’s next game is against Germantown on Saturday Oct. 10. Kick-off is at 10 a.m.
