Grafton student earns state 4-H scholarship

A Grafton student has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation.

Elaine Holmes received a T. L. Bewick Scholarship.

Holmes has been active in 4-H for 12 years. Her projects range from poultry and dairy to photography and cake decorating. She has held several leadership positions including Knellsville 4-H Club president, was a Junior Fairest of the Fair participant and served as a state delegate to the National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C.

Holmes is graduating from Port Washington High School and plans to attend the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities to pursue a business degree.

She has been the Key Club president, a member of DECA and captain of the Port Washington High School Varsity Soccer Team.

Holmes credits 4-H for helping her connect more with her community, becoming an avid volunteer at the local food pantry and helping with the Kapco Kids2Kids toy drive every year.

Brenda Scheider, director of development for the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation, said,  “Elaine is a great example of a young person who is using the skills learned through 4-H to ‘make the best better.’ I know that our future is bright because of our 4-H youth.”

The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation awarded $29,000 in scholarships this year.
