Grafton speedster runs with the best

Grafton High School senior Zander Lichosik proved he is among the fastest two-mile runners in Division 2 this season.

Lichosik took third place in the 3,200-meter run at the state track and field meet at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse last weekend. He finished in 9 minutes, 47.83 seconds, just two seconds out of second place and one second ahead of two other runners.

That put the Black Hawks in a four-way tie for sixth place with six points. Edgerton, Jefferson and Milwaukee Lutheran all scored six points as well.

Freedom won with 48.5 points, beating Rice Lake’s 47.

Grafton’s other qualifier, Dylan Mursch, took 13th in the discus with a throw of 129 feet, 3 inches.

Grafton’s girls scored two points and tied for 54th place with seven other teams. Wisconsin Lutheran won with 49 points.

Grafton’s 1,600 relay team of Delaney Reindl, Kate Senczyszyn, Maddy Wille and Morgan Ruona took seventh in 4:09.72.

The 800 relay team of Reindl, Ruona, Kirsten Van Ryzin and AvaWilmanns ran a 1:48.49 and didn’t qualify for the finals.

The 3,200 relay team of Julia and Maddy Wille, Elise Lueck and Ruona ran a 10:03.7 and didn’t qualify.

Taylor Weiss was 12th in shot put with a throw of 35-6.5. Julia Wille took 16th in the 3,200 in 12:05.98.

For Port, sophomore Bethany Stacey took 14th in the 3,200 in 11:58.84.

The Pirates’ 3,200 relay team of Emma Goodman, Grace Schumacher, Jill Cavanaugh and Katie Erlandson took 16th in 10:43.44.
