A 62-year-old motorcycle rider from Grafton was killed in a two-vehicle accident in the Town of Saukville on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 21.

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Steven DeStrampe was driving his cycle south on Highway I when he failed to yield to a van that was eastbound on Highway 33 at 3:15 p.m.

The driver of the van, 36-year-old Antonio York of Milwaukee, took evasive action but could not avoid hitting DeStrampe, Lt. Wayne Lambrecht said.

Ambulance crews from Saukville and Port Washington responded and a Flight For Life helicopter was called, but DeStrampe died at the scene, Lambrecht said.

Neither York nor the two passengers in the van he was driving, who are disabled, were injured, he said.

No citations were issued and criminal charges are not being requested. The investigation remains open pending toxicology tests of DeStrampe.
