Grafton kickers looking to find the net

Grafton High School’s boys’ soccer team is looking to find the back of the net after two shutouts last week.

The Black Hawks lost, 4-0, at Kettle Moraine Lutheran on Sept. 1 and 1-0 at Hartford last Thursday.

“KML, I think, will probably end up being pretty darn close to the 1 seed in our sectional,” coach Jake Wilde said. “Hopefully, we get another chance at them down the road.”

The game against the Orioles was there for the taking.

“It was the tale of two halves. In the first half I thought we were all over them. We had plenty of chances but weren’t clinical enough to finish,” Wilde said.

Hartford scored its goal 10 minutes into the second half “and we dropped our heads,” Wilde said.

Grafton (1-3) was to play at defending Division 2 state champion Whitefish Bay (3-0) on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and host Port Washington (1-0-2) for the Timm Snider Trophy on Thursday, Sept. 10. The Hawks play at Homestead on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Port wins first game of season

Port Washington topped West Bend East, 4-0, at home to crack into the wins column last Thursday.

Port’s first three goals came in an eight-minute stretch. Graysen Allen scored in the 31st minute on an assist from Kalin Mundt. Gracen Chapman scored in the 38th minute in an assist from Mundt, and Mundt scored in the 39th minute on an assist from Chapman.

Chapman added a second goal in the 75th minute on an assist from Allen.

The Pirates, 1-0-2, were to play at KML on Tuesday, Sept. 8. After playing at Grafton on Thursday, the Pirates host Kewaskum on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
