Grafton High seniors top state ACT average by nearly three points

Grafton High School seniors have exceeded the state average in ACT scores by nearly three points.

The students, who took the test as juniors during statewide testing in February, earned an average composite score of 22.6 out of 36 points. The state average composite score is 19.8 points.

Director of Teaching and Learning Dianna Kresovic presented the results to the Grafton School Board on Oct. 26. 

In the four main test categories Grafton students received an average score of 22 points in English, 3.3 points above the state average of 18.7; 22 in math, while the state average was 19.8; 22.6 in reading, 2.6 points above the state average; and 23.1 points in science, compared to the state average of 20.3.

Kresovic said seven students did not take the test in February. Retesting, which was to occur in late March, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Kresovic said the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction did not release statewide data for all districts, which it has customarily done in the past. She noted that some districts may not have tested at all because of the pandemic.

“(DPI) may not have any public data this year, depending on how many students test,” Kresovic said.
