Grafton High opens eyes of students to the careers that await them

GRAFTON HIGH SCHOOL students had the opportunity last month to learn about the careers and academic opportunities available to them after they graduate. Clockwise from top photo: Students spoke with instructors at Milwaukee Area Technical College to learn about career paths to jobs in the automotive industry, joined Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Sandy Williams on the bench to learn about legal careers and toured Wilo USA, a pump and pump system company, to learn about manufacturing jobs.
Grafton High School students got out of their classrooms and into a manufacturing facility and health care clinic, colleges and nonprofit organizations last month as part of the School District’s focus on preparing students for the future by exposing them to the opportunities that await them.
“These experiences are a vital part of our mission to provide students with a well-rounded education that equips them for the future,” Greg Johnson, Grafton High’s director of counseling, said.
Sophomores explored careers and the education and training it takes to work in various fields by visiting Concordia University Wisconsin, Milwaukee Area Technical College and Marquette University.
They also toured Aurora Medical Center and Wilo USA, a pump and pump system manufacturer in the Town of Cedarburg.
Freshmen, meanwhile, learned about the value of participating in their community by participating in service projects at Family Sharing, Riveredge Nature Center, Village Pointe Commons and the district’s two elementary schools.
