The Grafton/Cedarburg gymnastics team lost a tight meet at Nicolet on Jan. 13 but made some big strides in the process.

Molly Tomashek broke the school record on balance beam with a 9.6, which won the event.

The team scored 136.2 points, a season high.

“We are excited to be able to compete and practice this year. It has been an adjustment to change how our practices and meets are run to keep everyone safe,” coach Siri Bartlein said.

The team competes at Whitefish Bay on Friday and at West Bend East on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Port girls adjust to new protocols

Port Washington’s eight gymnasts lost to Hartford on Jan. 13, 139.125-109.475.

Audrey Dickson led the team on vault with 7.9, floor exercise with 8.3 and bars with 7.25. Liz Ernest led Port with 7.765 on beam.

“The girls have been fantastic in their training and have adapted very well to the new guidelines,” coach Gale Sigler said.

“It may take us some time to build our team score up, but I am quite impressed with the improvements I’ve seen so far.”

Port was to host an invite on Wednesday and compete at Nicolet on Feb. 3.
