Grafton Chamber makes changes in holiday events due to pandemic

The Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce has announced it will adapt this year’s holiday festivities due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The Home for the Holidays campaign has several new initiatives to help residents participate in activities while remaining socially distant. 

One of the activities includes a home decorating contest. Residents can register to participate and on Sunday, Nov. 22, a panel of judges will tour Grafton to determine the winners.

People’s Choice Awards will be determined via online voting.

Additionally, the Chamber will begin a new tradition by creating a community holiday cookie and dessert cookbook. Residents and community leaders are asked to submit recipes, along with at least two pictures of their desserts, to the Chamber by Monday, Nov. 3.

The book will be available for purchase starting Monday, Nov. 30.

Chamber Executive Director Pam King said there will be an online visits with Santa on Saturday, Nov. 28, in lieu of the annual Breakfast with Santa event.

Families will be able to register for visits that will include time to talk with Santa from his workshop office and a photo for each child. King said more dates maybe added based on demand. 

The Chamber is also offering a gift set that will include a special parade DVD, popcorn, the community holiday cookbook and a coupon book for area businesses.

“This year, our board and the Holiday Events Committee feel that in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is in the best interest of our community to create unique and enjoyable experiences that promote the safety and well being of our residents,” Chamber Board President Mary Karnitz said.
