Grafton’s Benzschawel signed to Houston Texans’ practice squad

Former University of Wisconsin-Madison star guard Beau Benzschawel has found a second home in the NFL.

Benzschawel, a 2014 Grafton High School graduate, was a two-time first team All-America selection, the third offensive lineman in Badgers history to earn the repeat honor.

In 2018, Benzschawel’s blocking helped pave the way for the nation’s leading rusher, Jonathan Taylor,

Benzschawel started 49 games for the Badgers, fourth most in school history.

Benzschawel wasn’t drafted but signed with the Detroit Lions two years ago and got on the field for a few plays last season.

This season, the Lions put Benzschawel on their practice squad before releasing him this month. Days later, the Houston Texans signed him to their practice squad, according to the Texans’ website.

Benzschawel is part of a Badgers family. His father and uncle played for Wisconsin, as well as his younger brother Luke. His younger brother J.P., a senior at Grafton, has committed to Wisconsin.
