Goines homers but Mercs drop Saukville Saints
The Saukville Saints dropped two Rock River League games last weekend.
On Saturday, the visiting Cedarburg Mercs won, 12-4, building a 7-0 lead through seven innings.
The Saints got on the board with four runs in the eighth inning. Mike Viezbicke walked, and Simon Bares and Chase Verbanac singled to load the bases. Brendon Zimdars hit an RBI single.
With two runners on base, Zander Goines clocked a three-run homer to make it 7-4.
The Mercs came back with five runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Bares, Vermanac, Zimdars and Goines each had two hits for the Saints.
Brian Hirschinger started and allowed 14 hits and seven runs (four earned) while striking out seven and walking five in seven innings. Goines relieved, allowing two hits and five runs, walking five and striking out one.
Cody Lozano had five hits for the Mercs. Brett Torbeck got the victory, allowing four hits while striking out nine and walking one over six scoreless innings.
On Sunday, the Saints lost, 7-3, at the Brownsville 49ers.
The Saints scored all their runs in the third inning. Bares doubled, followed by a Cole Bzdawka single. Luis Dupe had an RBI double and a Hirschinger double brought in two runs.
The 49ers scored one run in the first inning, two in the third inning, one in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Bzdawka allowed 10 hits and seven runs (three earned), striking out seven and walking one over eight innings. The Saints made seven errors.
Bares and Dupe each had three hits. Bzdawka and Hirschinger each had two.
The Saints, 2-8, were to play at the Hartford Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, and play at the Thiensville-Mequon Twins at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8.
