A gift of socks

Members of the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion and Legion Auxiliary Post 82 in Port Washington gathered Dec. 16 to donate 478 pair of socks they collected for homeless veterans and those training for outdoor work, as well as diabetic socks for veterans at the Milwaukee Veterans Affairs facilities. In addition, the group donated six dozen activity books and numerous boxes of pencils and pens to help veterans at the VA cope with pandemic lockdowns. Among those attending were (from left) Senior Poppy Princess Makayla Wallock, Junior Poppy Princess Halie Schwartz-Peck, Legion Post Commander John Jacque, Auxiliary members Christy Wallock and Karen Kuttler, Auxiliary First Vice President Karry Kultgen, Secretary Janet Ball, Second Vice President Tina Mach, Chaplain Diane Keller, Wisconsin Auxiliary President Diane Weggen, Auxiliary member Emily Bied, Port Food Pantry Director Pat Kozak, Auxiliary President Diane Burkhalter, Co-Chaplain Mary Marchese and Second District Vice Commander Jim Schmidt. The Auxiliary also presented a $500 donation to Weggen to help build a courtyard at the Chippewa Falls Veterans Home and 178.6 pounds of food, as well as $100, to the Port Washington Food Pantry.
