GHS in-person graduation moved to August
Grafton High School’s in-person graduation ceremony has been rescheduled from Sunday, May 31, to either Aug. 1 or 2, depending on the weather, officials said.
Seniors and their families will still be able to celebrate on the original graduation date this Sunday at the school football field during a cap-and-gown photo opportunity with Principal Scott Mantei.
During Monday’s School Board meeting, Supt. Jeff Nelson said the photo event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Families will be assigned a two-minute time slot to ensure social-distancing practices.
“It doesn’t replace our graduation ceremony, but it does provide our graduates an opportunity to celebrate on their intended graduation date,” Nelson said.
“We realize Aug. 1 or 2 may not work for all of our families, so this is an opportunity for them.”
In case of inclement weather on May 31, Nelson said, the photo event will be postponed until Sunday, June 7.
Eighth-grade students at John Long Middle School will have a virtual promotion at 7 p.m. Monday, June 8, which is the original graduation date.
