George Manian Jr.

George Manian, Jr., age 84, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, at home.
He was born on September 14, 1936; son of George Manian, Sr. and Anna (nee Papazian) Manian.
George served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict from 1954 to 1957, achieving the rank of corporal.
On June 29, 1979, George married Elizabeth “Beth” Harvey at The Alpine Village in Mequon.
George loved to tend to his impressive flower garden and yard, tell “dad” jokes, cook delicious Armenian food from scratch and was a master turkey carver at the family’s Thanksgiving celebrations.
He enjoyed time spent with family and friends, attending local festivals, dancing, as well as traveling to Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Sun City, Ariz.
George was a member of Steelworkers Union Local 1260 and the St. Andrew’s Society of Milwaukee. He was loyal and hardworking. He rarely missed a day on the job.
Upon completion of his military service, he returned home to Wisconsin, where he was employed with the Square D Corp., American Motors and Miller Brewing Co./Ball Corp. until his retirement in 2006.
Less than a year later, he accepted a seasonal position with the City of Port Washington Parks and Recreation Department where he, for the next 10 years, could be found on a lawn mower, driving the water truck or digging in the flower gardens throughout town.
In 2018, he cut his commute time down to one-minute, accepting a similar seasonal position with the Village of Random Lake, where he served until the end of the 2020 season.
He was a devoted husband to Beth; loving father to Jeff (Norma) Manian, Katherine “Cheech” Madden, Heidi Geisler, Romy (Wade) Ayer and Megan Manian; a special blessing to his 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; dear brother to the Honorable Judge Victor (Darlene) Manian and brother-in-law to Richard (Dianna) Vernon. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Virginia Patterson and parents-in-law Bob and Peggy Harvey.
