George J. Franks

George J. Franks of Port Washington passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the age of 93.  

He was born the beloved son of James and Anna (Pujanauski) Frankewiczike  (Franks) on Feb. 8, 1932.  

George married Doris Smith on July 31, 1954, and together raised five boys.

  George was born and raised in Port Washington and was very fond of his community and everything it offered. He graduated from the local high school and thought it was a great place to raise his family.  

George proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 and was a long-time member of the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 in Port Washington.  

He loved taking long walks and was known to be a “fierce gardener.”

  George’s memory will be cherished by those who knew him best. He is survived by sons Jim (Sarah), Michael, Brian (Karen) and Daniel Franks; grandchildren James, Amanda and Scott Franks and Katie (Joel) Gibb; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

  George was preceded in death by his wife Doris and son Alan Franks.

Per George’s wishes, no formal funeral will be held. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington, in a private ceremony.
