It didn’t take Dan Gehrke long to return to public office.

The former Fredonia Village Board President ran for the Village of Fredonia seat on the Northern Ozaukee School Board as a registered write-in candidate and received 109 votes in the April 7 general election.

The second-highest vote-getter received three votes. A total of 173 write-in votes were cast, according to unofficial results from the Ozaukee County Clerk’s Office.

Gehrke served on the Village Board from 2019 to 2025 and for three years as president. He didn’t seek re-election to spend time with his wife and three children and on his growing home building and real estate business.

Gehrke was to be sworn in on Monday with the other three winning candidates who ran unopposed. Brian Conrad won the Town of Belgium seat on the School Board with 1,094 votes. Lauren Simmons won the Town of Fredonia seat with 1,058 votes and John JJ Winnemuller won the Town of Saukville seat with 1,104 votes.

Not seeking re-election were Jennifer Clark, who held the Village of Fredonia seat; Brent Neis, who held the Town of Saukville seat and served as board president; and Town of Fredonia seat holder Kevin Klas.
