Frieda C. Carlson

Frieda C. Carlson of Fredonia, Wis., passed away peacefully with her family at her side at home on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023.

She was born on May 31, 1944, in Johnstown, Penn., the daughter of John and Pauline Sechrengost Marsinko.

After growing up in Johnstown, Frieda made her way to Wisconsin in 1975, soon after meeting her future husband Richard Carlson of Milwaukee. They married on May 18, 1982, in Cedarburg. From 1989,  they would call Fredonia home.

She enjoyed working in sales and was always a people person. While living in Cedarburg, Frieda operated the former Fritzy’s Country Saloon there until 1986.  Shortly thereafter, Frieda would open and operate the former Whatnot Shop on Franklin Street in Port Washington for a few years. She really loved those years.

Considered a friend to many, Frieda was always a very social person. She had been an active volunteer with her husband for more than 30 years at the Ozaukee County Fair in Cedarburg.

A kind and nurturing animal lover, Frieda volunteered at the Ozaukee Humane Society in Grafton and Saukville for more than 20 years. She was also an avid supporter of animal rescue.

She also loved time spent with family and friends in the Kettle Moraine, participating in the Crooked Lake Sports Club for many years.

Frieda is survived by her husband Richard and her children Aaron Carlson of Fillmore, Matthew (Sharmayne) Carlson of Fredonia, Jeffrey Carlson of Oshkosh and Melissa (Calvin) Timm of Appleton.

She is further survived by her grandchildren Stacy Carlson, Michael Carlson, Amber (Ed) Kidd, Zach Carlson and Casey Carlson; great-grandchildren Gabriella, Lyric, Lilliana and twins Aaron and Edward; her sister Ruth Halapia of Johnstown, Penn.; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and her many friends.

Frieda was preceded in death by her sons Billy and John Carlson, her grandson Tyler Carlson and three brothers.

All are invited to gather to remember Frieda from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at Poole Funeral Home, 203 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington, Wis.

Final interment will take place in Benshoff Hill Cemetery in Johnstown, Penn., with her sons.
