Free workshops, events set by OFS

Ozaukee Family Services is hosting a variety of free workshops this fall.

Playgroups for children from birth to 5 and their parents will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on select dates.

The theme for the Thursday, Sept. 17, session is apples, and for the Thursday, Oct. 29, session the theme is trick or treat.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, the theme is woodland animals. Santa is the theme for the December session, but the date is undetermined.

There is limited free childcare available for older children during the sessions, which are facilitated by Family Services parents.

Advance registration is required.

“Let’s Play to Learn” sessions will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 27, Sept. 2 and Sept. 25.

Sexuality and Gender Equity, a supportive gathering for LGBTQIA+ youth and allies looking for community, connection and a safe place to grow, will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The group will explore healthy friendships and relationships, dating safety and navigating today’s world, emotional regulation and resilience, self-discovery and identity, suicide prevention and mental wellness and the LGBTQIA+ community and resources

Snacks will be provided. Advance registration is suggested.

“Smart Screens, Smarter Parenting” will be discussed from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.

The session is intended for the parents of children from birth to 13 and is designed  to help them navigate their children’s screen use with confidence and intention.

The class will explore healthy screen habits, age-appropriate boundaries, online safety and ways to foster meaningful offline connections. 

Parents will leave with simple tools and strategies to guide their children in using technology wisely without power struggles or guilt.

A fall open house will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.

Those attending may meet the staff, explore programs and services and learn more about the many ways Family Services supports individuals and families throughout the area.

The event will give people a chance to spin the wheel for prizes, enjoy a fun, easy scavenger hunt and see some of the children’s activities offered by the staff.
