Fredonia remembers

Flanked by Warren Kane American Legion Post Cmdr. Ron Lanser (left in top photo) and Village President Don Dohrwardt, 96-year-old World War II veteran Norman Jagow, who was a prisoner of war, laid a wreath near a cross during Fredonia’s Memorial Day program held Monday in Veterans Park. The keynote speaker for the event, which was organized by the Legion Post, was Jagow’s son Steve (middle right photo), who spoke about prisoners of war with connections to Fredonia, including his father, who lives in Fredonia. After the laying of the wreath, the Jagow family gathered around the park’s flag poles for the raising of the POW flag (middle left photo). Also flying for the ceremony were the flags of the branches of the military, including the Navy flag which was raised by Jerry Rosenthal (left).
