Fourth of July celebrations return to Port

Port Washington will celebrate Independence Day in style this year with activities all weekend long.

A community picnic will be held at Veterans Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Saturday, July 3. 

There will be the traditional bike decorating contest for youngsters, with judging at the bandshell at 11 a.m. Decorating kits are available at Port Washington State Bank, which sponsors the event, and the Port Parks and Recreation Department office.

Ice cream will be sold by Christ the King Lutheran Church and concessions, including brats, hot dogs, candy, chips and beverages, will be available.

There will be music, balloon Twister and other events, as well as a free raffle.

The city’s farmers market will be held that morning as well. 

The market, held on East Main Street between Franklin and Wisconsin streets, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The day will end with a fireworks show, with the pyrotechnics shot off from Coal Dock Park.

Saturday will also be the premier of the city’s beer garden series in Upper Lake Park. The beer garden, sponsored by the Friends of Port Washington Parks and Recreation and the Port EMS/Fire Association, will run from 1 to 9 p.m.

Entertainment will be provided by Will Pfrang from 1 to 4 p.m. and by Jay Matthew from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The holiday fun will continue Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Pirates Hollow Community Waterpark.

There will be a biggest splash contest  at about 1 p.m. and family and friend relay races at 2 p.m. with prizes awarded.
