Football all-star game is canceled

Ozaukee High School graduate Brent Hoffmann won’t get to play in another high school football game.

The star running back and defensive back was selected to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Game for small schools, but it has been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The game, along with the large school game and banquet, was scheduled to be played this month at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The week’s festivities  benefit Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

“We realize that this is disappointing to the players, parents, coaches and fans of the games, but the current situation without the use of college campuses makes it logistically impossible to hold the All-Star Games this year,” the WFCA said in a statement.

Children’s Hospital, the WFCA said, was planning to contact players about receiving their game jersey, incentive wear and game programs.

Hoffmann, who also excelled in basketball and baseball, committed to play baseball for Carroll University in Waukesha. The team plans to play him in the infield and as a relief pitcher.
