Fireworks, but no parade, picnic for Port’s Fourth of July

This year, there will be no Port Washington Fourth of July parade or bike decorating contest, like there was in 2016 when the winners posed for a photo in Veterans Park, but a fireworks show is planned. Press file photo

Port Washington will have a Fourth of July celebration, but it won’t be the same as in previous years.

City Administrator Tony Brown told the Common Council that plans for a fireworks show on Independence Day are in the works, but that will be the extent of the city’s celebration.

“Beyond that there will be no programming,” Brown said. “It will strictly be the fireworks.”

The annual parade and picnic in Veterans Park will not be held due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Brown told aldermen he was announcing the plan and asked if anyone objected, but no one did.

Ald. John Sigwart asked if the annual Community Street Festival sponsored by Port Washington Main Street Inc. was being held this year.

“It’s still under discussion,” Ald. Dan Benning said.

The street festival is traditionally held the Sunday before Memorial Day.
