Fire minor but a reminder during fire prevention week

A fire at a duplex in the Village of Saukville last week caused little damage, but served as a reminder during fire prevention month of what could happen, Grafton’s Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Karpinski said.

The cause of the fire, which was reported around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, is still under investigation but Karpinski said nothing about the fire was suspicious.

The fire reportedly started on the exterior of the house.

No injuries were reported from the fire.

Karpinski said regardless of there being “fairly minimal” damage to the house, this fire served as a reminder of what could have happened.

“It’s really important that residents are checking their smoke detectors to make sure they are working. People should also have a fire evacuation plan, or a means to get out of the house if there is a fire,” he said. “This fire didn’t escalate to a smoke detector being needed, but if it was at night then it definitely could have.”
