You probably didn’t know our dad personally but ...
If you were at Grafton Bowl in the 1960s though the 1990s, you may have been there when he bowled his 300 game.
If you attended Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton within the last 50 years, he may have ushered you to a pew.
If you were a grade school student in Grafton and walked to school, our dad was probably your crossing guard.
If you saw an older couple out on their daily walk with their little black dog along the highway by Sunset Court, those were our parents.
Dad touched a lot of people in his 95 years.
Elroy John Tiegs was born on April 10, 1923, in Grafton.
He was a Marine and served during World War II.
He married Irene Rose Albrent of Hatley in May 1949, and they recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Elroy was a long time employee of Schlitz, retiring with over 40 years of service.
He is survived by his wife Irene; daughters Diane (William) Wells, Karen (Marty) Formico, Susan (the late Michael) Fedel and son Jim (Sue) Tiegs. He is further survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother Raymond (Doris) Tiegs of Grafton, nieces and nephews.
Elroy was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra (David) Farrington; parents Ray and Marie Tiegs; and sister Dolores (Ray) Lambrecht.
A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton.
Public visitation will take place at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
