Eigen is December artist of the month

Donna Eigen is the December artist-in-residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

Eigen, who is currently working in decoupage on glass, retired from Rockwell Automation as a global marketing manager in 2010 and served in the Peace Corps in Puebla, Mexico, from 2011 to 2013. Creating art became a driving force in her life after her time in Mexico, when the vibrant Latin American culture brought a new way of looking at color, form and style.

She creates functional art as well as colorful “storyboxes,” assembling decoupaged glass panels in a shadow box to create a multi-layered collage that tells a story. Eigen earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and a master of arts degree in communication from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Eigen will demonstrate her art forms at the center from noon to 2 p.m. on Dec. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 10, 11, 17 and 18.

She will teach “Decoupage on Glass II,”  Saturday, Jan. 7. The workshop will incorporate advanced techniques into decoupage. Students will learn how to work with more challenging materials such as napkins, tissue paper and alcohol inks as they create separate inside and outside designs on a glass bowl, allowing the inside design to be visible through the glass.

They will take home a beautiful, yet functional work of art to hold jewelry, keepsakes or small change.

The center at W62 N546 Washington Ave. is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
