An Illinois man was killed in an early morning crash last week on Highway 57 just south of Jay Road in the Town of Fredonia.

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Alberto Zepeda, 27, of Aurora, Ill., was southbound just after 5 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, when a tanker truck hauling waste water and driven by Fred Glander, 63, of Random Lake pulled into the southbound lanes of the highway.

The Mercedes Benz Sprinter van driven by Zepeda crashed into the rear of the truck, killing Zepeda. Glander was unhurt.

The southbound lanes of Highway 57 were closed until about noon.

The incident is still under investigation. The incident will be reviewed by the Ozaukee County District Attorney’s Office to see if charges are appropriate once the investigation is complete, Sheriff’s Lt. Wayne Lambrecht said.
