Dorothy Jean Elgin

Dorothy Jean Elgin (nee Cable) was called home peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on March 21, 2024, at the age of 90 years.
Dorothy was born on Feb. 24, 1934, in Louisiana, Mo., the daughter of the late Charles Leonard Cable and the late Mildred (nee Smith) Rubringer.
She married William “Wayne” Elgin on Sept. 4, 1954, in Louisiana, Mo. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Rock, Jeff and Mel.
Dorothy devoted her life to being a stay-at-home mother, raising not only her three children but also helping raise her granddaughter Jennifer (nee Elgin) Gelinskey, as well as great-granddaughter Kaley Gelinskey.
She attended sporting events, loved her crosswords and doing puzzles and was a grandmother to all of the neighborhood kids.
She was an animal lover who loved all of her “fur babies” and leaves behind her beloved 16-year-old dog Chelsea.
Dorothy is survived by her children Rock Elgin, Jeff (Wendy) Elgin and Melody “Mel” Elgin; grandchildren Jennifer (nee Elgin) Gelinskey and Meseret, Yeabsira and Ellie Elgin, Amy (Jason) Luedtke and Ben (Adam) Berry; great-grandchildren Kaley Gelinskey and Tyler, Jack and Grant Luedtke; and sibling Bruce (Debbie) Cable. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many, friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne Elgin and siblings Donna, Ann and Jimmy.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 6 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory, 979 N. Green Bay Rd., Grafton.
A private interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
She will be in state on Tuesday at Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory, Grafton, from 3 to 5:45 p.m.
Being the animal lover she was, in lieu of flowers, memorials to the Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus are appreciated.
