Dogs get in on the fun at Port Legion’s children’s event

Youngsters were the guests of honor at a children’s event hosted last month by the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion and Auxiliary at its clubhouse in Port Washington during the American Legion’s Children and Youth Month, but there were also a number of dogs in attendance, including a chocolate Labrador with its trainer Maddie Winter (left) and a golden retriever with its trainer Brianna Winter (center). The pups are both  service dogs in training, and their presence at the event was in keeping with the Port Legion’s mission of raising money to train service dogs for veterans.   Photo by Sam Arendt
