District sends e-bike safety tips
The latest transportation trend has caught on in the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District, prompting Supt. Elizabeth Freeman to email safety reminders to parents.
“We have seen an increase in the use of e-bikes on campus. We love seeing students being outdoors and being active,” she said at last week’s School Board meeting.
“We’re asking parents to help us out at home, reminding students of what the rules of the road are and watching for pedestrians.”
The email advised students to ride at a safe speed, watch for vehicles, yield to pedestrians, follow campus rules and posted signs, follow traffic laws and wear appropriate safety equipment.
E-bikes and scooters are to stay on paved surfaces on school property.
There is one type of e-bike that is prohibited from campus.
“E-dirt bikes are not permitted on school property before, during and after school hours,” Freeman said.
The district hasn’t had any accidents or close calls, she said.
