Dimmer is new Port City Band director

Brett Dimmer is the new director of the Port Washington City Band.

Dimmer replaces Lori MacRae, who retired at the end of the 2022 season after serving as the band’s director for more than 30 years.

Dimmer has been a member of the trumpet section of the City Band since 1989, when he finished eighth grade.

A native of Port Washington, Dimmer has taught instrumental music as well as technology assistance and integration in the Grafton School District for the past 24 years.

He also serves as choir director for First

Congregational Church in Port.

City Band has been part of the Port Washington community since 1927.

This year’s summer concert series at the bandshell in Veteran’s Park opens on Sunday, June 11.

The band also participates in the Fourth of July parades in Port Washington and Saukville, as well as the Fish Day parade.

The band is open to members of all abilities and ages, from those just entering high school through senior citizens. Auditions are not required.

Rehearsals are from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays from May through July at the Port Washington High School band room.
