Darlene Wester
Mrs. Darlene Wester of Belgium passed away early Friday morning, June 14, 2024, at Lincoln Village in Port Washington, where she had been residing the last six years. She was days shy of her 92nd birthday.
Darlene was born in Port Washington on June 27, 1932, the daughter of Arthur and Olive (nee Dimmer) Remich.
The family later moved to Belgium and Darlene attended local schools.
On June 27, 1953, Darlene was united in marriage with Daniel Wester at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church. The couple settled in Belgium and raised their family of four children.
Dan preceded Darlene in death in 1982.
Mrs. Wester worked as a postal clerk at the Belgium Post Office for 27 years, retiring in 1997.
She was a faithful member of Divine Savior Parish and had been a member of the Christian Women. Darlene was also a member of the American Legion Melvin Wester Belgium Post 412 Auxiliary, of which she had been a past president.
Darlene collected mailbox figurines and stamps. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, a good game of cards (especially sheepshead) and crocheting. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Cindy (John) Thill of Belgium, Gary (Sue) Wester of Huntington Beach, Calif., Connie Wester of Brown Deer and Craig Wester of Buford, Ga., and nine granddaughters.
Darlene is further survived by 14 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Mary Ann Wester, nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel, their infant daughter Sandra and her sister Lois Groff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Divine Savior Parish, Holy Cross Chapel, 5330 Hwy. B, Belgium. Father Neil Zinthefer will preside. The family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 3:30 to 6:15 p.m.
Darlene will be laid to rest beside her husband in St. Mary Parish Cemetery, Lake Church, the following day.
