Daniel J. Burke

Mr. Dan Burke of Port Washington, formerly of Madison, passed away at his residence early Saturday morning, May 21, 2022, following recent health issues. He was 80 years old.
Daniel was born in Madison on June 10, 1941, the son of James and Eileen Erickson Burke.
He attended local schools and graduated from Monona Grove High School with the Class of 1959.
Following his schooling, Dan served in the Wisconsin National Guard.
After purchasing a small boat with friends, Dan met Marjorie Messer on a sailing outing. The couple were united in marriage on Dec. 10, 1966, in Portage.
They moved to Thiensville and later Port Washington, where they settled and began their family.
Mr. Burke worked in sales for Edison Liquor for more than 40 years, retiring in 2002.
Dan was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, where he was a former president of the Church Council.
He was a founding member of the Port Athletic Boosters and Port Youth Wrestling Club, and a former member of the Port Washington-Saukville Jaycees.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing for crappies, playing cards, going with his friends for breakfast and Friday fish fries.
Over the years, he formed many relationships with friends and community members that truly meant the world to him.
More than anything, though, Dan enjoyed the countless moments he spent experiencing all of the many accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and all of their friends and families. Dan was in their corner in any and all athletics and activities.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Marjorie; their children Eric (Alison) Burke of Rhinelander, Ryan (Stephanie) of Nolensville, Tenn., and Dianna (Lawrence) Otto of Belgium; and seven grandchildren, Lukas, Maxwell, Julia, Wesley, Hailey, Kara and Cameron. He is further survived by other family members and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Michael (Judy) Burke and sister Karen (Ronald) Reineck.
A celebration of life was to be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 420 W. Whitefish Rd. in Port Washington. Pastor Daniel Flucke will preside. The family was to receive visitors at the church on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the services at 5 p.m.
Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
