Ozaukee County is seeking bids for a piece of land in the Village of Fredonia that the village covets for itself.

The one-third acre at Wheeler Avenue and Stoney Creek Lane was seized by the county for back taxes. Now the county is inviting people to submit sealed bids to buy it.

The minimum bid is set at $19,900, its current appraised value. It’s assessed value this year is $41,800, according to the county.

Village President Don Dohrwardt and village officials are hopeful no bids meet the minimum so the village can negotiate with the county to obtain the property and install parking for the nearby athletic fields.

Sealed bids will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the county treasurer’s office. Bids must be accompanied by  a cashier’s check or money equal to 10% of the submitted bid.

The winning bid will be approved by the county Finance Committee meeting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27. The winning bid is subject to County Board approval on Oct. 3.

The property is zoned residential.

Bid offer forms and envelopes are located at the treasurer’s office, 121 W. Main St., Port Washington.
