County moves Clean Sweep to fall to steer clear of pandemic
Ozaukee County’s Clean Sweep recycling and disposal effort planned for May 9 has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31, due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
Last year’s event, held in May, collected more than 21,000 pounds of electronics and hazardous materials, 4,300 pounds of agricultural waste and more than 400 tires.
This year’s event will be the fourth since the program was brought back under the umbrella of the Land and Water Management Department, joined by the county Highway Department, Veolia Environmental Services, Goodwill Industries and Refrigerant Depot.
The program was formerly sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Extenson Office but was discontinued for several years until being resurrected in 2017.
The collection is open to all county residents except those from the City of Port Washington, who are able to dispose of household hazardous waste throughout the year at the Veolia facility in Port Washington. Port residents can, however, drop off tires at the county collection.
For more information on the program, call the county Land and Water Management Office at 284-8313 or go to cleansweep.co.ozaukee.wi.us/.
