CONCESSIONS IMPRESSIONS: Your team made state! Here’s some overpriced food

For those of you who remember my rant about the $5 water at the Kohl Center in Madison for state wrestling, the venue has a friend in the disgrace.

Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute was charging $4.75 for 20 ounces of the plain liquid refreshment.

Do counties with nuclear capability even pay that for heavy water?

It didn’t come with a souvenir cup or anything. Just straight liquid in a boring clear bottle.

Were these people not aware of the weather? For most of June 16, fans could have tilted their heads back and opened their mouths for plenty to drink.

Keep in mind the audience. Friends and relatives of baseball team state qualifiers aren’t necessarily people of means.

Many have driven for hours paying wildly varying prices for gasoline (perhaps cheaper than water) covering tens of miles, at least 50 feet of which wasn’t under road construction (their driveways).

The rest of the menu’s prices weren’t anything to write home about either. After eating, you wouldn’t be able to afford the stamp.

A cheeseburger was $9.50. A Nathan’s hot dog was $5, and so was a bag of Frito Lay’s chips. Helmet cheese fries were $7.50, but you could at least use the vessel to catch rain for a drink after.

I had a $6 brat courtesy of Salmon’s Meat Products in Luxemburg and packed as much kraut on that thing as that bun could hold (not a famous Sheboygan hard roll, by the way). Yes, they had onions, but for brats it’s hard to turn down kraut.

I paired it with a 16-ounce soda for $4.25 (smallest they had) and magically discovered a small sink in the media room. I got my water, anyway.

These are stadium prices of the Milwaukee Brewers’ High-A Minor League Baseball affiliate the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

Have you seen the salaries of these players? They can’t afford to eat at their own concession stands.

For those concerned with my memory from our recent battery-charging incident, fear not. My batteries were charged coming into state.

On an unrelated note, I visited the Snake Pit, the official team store of the Timber Rattlers, and made a small purchase.

Because I forgot to bring pens.

Fortunately, these were only $2 each. For those scoring at home, the pen pair equates to buying about 16.8 ounces of water at the concession stand.
