Concessions Impressions

GRAFTON’S NEW SOCCER concession stand (top photo) completed a picture-perfect scene on May 22 as it was partly manned by freshmen Aubrey Mangan, Zoey Gunter and Eva Deering. I finally got to visit the much-anticipated — well I anticipated it anyway — new soccer concession stand at Grafton High School.
The building meets the hype.
The gorgeous well-lit facility replaces the tiny one and adds a modern-day convenience we all take for granted.
Bathrooms.
That’s right, folks. No more portable toilets at Black Hawks’ soccer games. Let’s hear it for indoor plumbing.
Electricity is pretty cool, too. It makes heating hot dogs easier.
District Director of Business Services Topher Adams told me the project cost about $360,000 with a mix between fundraising and budgeted money. That breakdown is still being tallied, but one thing is for sure.
This facility rocks. It’s neat, clean and looks sharp. I enjoyed popcorn, Gatorade and a hot dog, devouring it before that resident hawk scoping the area got any ideas.
The old facility will be used for storage — whatever soccer stuff they can cram in there.
Another special element about the new stand is it’s going to be named after Grafton Athletic Hall of Fame member and longtime girls’ and boys’ soccer coach — and all-around great guy, I might add — Don Arnold. A ceremony will likely be scheduled in fall, Adams said. I plan to attend with my plus-one being my appetite.
