Composting class to be held on March 25

A free class in composting will be held by the Ozaukee Master Gardeners on Wednesday, March 25.

There will be two sessions, one from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and the other from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Kacmarcik Center for Human Development in Grafton.

Composting is a natural process that turns food scraps, grass clippings and leaves that usually end up in a landfill into nutrient-rich organic soil.

Compost helps soil retain water, nourishes plants and saves gardeners money by eliminating the need to purchase chemical fertilizers.

A certified master composter will teach participants what can be composted, compost containers and other methods, how to create the right conditions for microbes to do their job and the test to determine when it’s ready to use.

The Kacmarcik Center is at 885 Badger Cir.

Advance registration is required, and attendance is limited to 25 gardeners per session.
